Blue Lagoon in Malta: everything you should know

Blue Lagoon em Malta

Visiting Malta was like visiting paradise! What a gorgeous island! We love beaches so we definitely fell in love with the country, of course! It’s a destination that suits everyone! One of the main attractions is the Blue Lagoon in Comino island. There are a few options of how to get there so we’ll cover on this article everything you should know before you visit Blue Lagoon in Malta.

First of all, we stayed 2 weeks in Malta studying at Clubclass. By the way, we suggest you to take a look at Study & Work in Malta post. Besides, Malta was the second destination of our 2018 eurotrip when we visited these cities: Madrid, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Prague, Krakow, Malmo, Copenhagen and Toledo.

How to get to the Blue Lagoon in Malta

Comino is a tiny island between Malta and Gozo and home to the Blue Lagoon, the crystal clear light blue place between the islands where you can swim. You can go by ferry or speedboat. We chose the second option because it takes about 3 hours to get to Comino by ferry as they pass in Gozo first (we tried this option and didn’t like).

By speedboat takes approx. only 40 minutes and you can get into the amazing caves as you can see on the following pics. The ferries are too big so there’s no cave trips, which is not the ideal because you’ll be surprised when you see those exciting caves in the inside… believe me!

Tony Muskat was our guide. He was one of the first ones in Malta to start organising trips to the wonderful Blue Lagoon in Comino. The company is the Oki-Ko-Ki Banis and they have daily Comino trips leaving St. Julian’s at 9:30-10:00 and returning at 16:00.

On the way to the Blue Lagoon, Tony slowdowns the speedboat to have a good view of St. Paul’s island. Besides, during all the way to Comino he gives interesting information about everything related to Malta. It’s amazing!

Tony really made the trip exciting and really enjoyable for us! If you check the reviews on TripAdvisor you’ll see that everybody share the same experience! 🙂

Blue Lagoon in Malta – what to expect

One of the most famous attraction in Malta, it was our favorite btw during our trip to the island. That bright blue water is fabulous and the view when you walk up to the hill is incredible! However it’s extremely overcrowded to the point where you can barely find an inch of rock to sit on, depending on the season. Make sure to arrive between 9:00 and 11:00. The ferries use to arrive after 11:00 and turns the place into another completely different scenario, with people everywhere!

You can rent chairs and parasols but it’s kinda expensive. We rather left our things on the rocks and enjoyed the clearblue water. Attention: we went during spring and it was full of jellyfish everywhere. I have a donut swim ring and took it to the Blue Lagoon as you can see on the photos so it was easier for me to get rid of them but I heard a lot of people screaming as the jellyfish were attacking! hahahah
