Sparty Budapest – the unique bath party

Sparty Budapest

WOW! What a party! This bath party (SPArty Budapest) was one the most commented activity during our eurotrip and our fave attraction in the city. The spas themselves are a must-visit in Budapest, of course, but when we mix a fantastic party in this gorgeous venue it becomes even more special! Here we introduce you the SPArty Budapest! o/

Budapest is famous for its nightlife and for being the spa European capital due to its numerous traditional thermal baths from the 19th century. The Hungarian capital attracts thousands of curious tourists every season of the year.

Remember that Budapest was the third destination of our eurotrip in May-Jun of 2018. We also visited Madrid, Malta, Bratislava, Vienna, Prague, Krakow, Malmo, Copenhagen and Toledo.

How does Sparty Budapest work?

SPArty is the one and only bath party in the world. In a 19-century bath house, no party could be conventional. With live fire acts and acrobatic performances, laser shows and 3D building projections, you’ll love it!

Our tickets included access to the pools and to a cabin/cubicle which is a lockable private change room. We had more privacy and left our belongings safely during the event. There’s also a cheaper option which is the Locker: a small lockable cupboard or compartment for public use where you can keep your stuffs safely.

The event started at 10:30 PM and ended at 03:00 AM. Make sure to get there before 02:00 AM.

We suggest you to book your tickets online in advance to make sure you get in but you can get them on the door. The thing is… they are limited in quantity (especially in the summer months). Onsite tickets cost 18000 HUF. Each ticket includes access to the individual lockers to leave your belongings.

You can book the VIP option as you get 2 free drinks, towel and bag so don’t need to carry much with you.

The idea of having a rave in a thermal bath excites a lot of people who are looking for something unique! Guests can enjoy great electronic dance music and unforgettable visuals while swimming and partying in the pools of Budapest’s most beautiful baths.

They don’t accept card or cash for drinks. SPARTY PAY CARD is their currency. Drink cards can be topped up at TOP UP POINTS.  Initial top up: 10.000 HUF (includes 3000 HUF deposit). Kindly note: balance is NOT TRANSFERABLE from event to event, and you only get the sum back on the spot, until the SPARTY is closed.

Sparties are held almost all weekends of the year in either Lukacs or Szechenyi Bath, however, there are two occasions each year to take part in the outstanding musical and visual experience of Cinetrip Sparties.

How to get to the SPArty Budapest

So easy to get to as it’s a stop on the M1 metro line. Taxify also is a great app to get a ride to SPARTY. Budapest did not offer Uber when we were there.

Sparty – history

The first Sparty was organised in 1994 in Szechenyi Bath, however, in the beginning it was for the entertainment of a bigger group of friends. The occasional events that at first were kind of house parties, spiced up with movie screenings soon overgrew their own boundaries. Ever since, they’ve organised regular night bathing parties in Rudas Bath from 1998, then occasionally in Gellért, Király and Lukács Baths.

Sparty event series has been running for more than twenty-two years and now it’s one of the most frequented events of the Hungarian capital with 50-55 thousand visitors annually (from 165 different countries).

Apart from reforming the thousand years old bathing culture, their aim with the combination of Hungarian bathing and party-culture is to create a unique musical and visual world for their guest that they cannot find anywhere else in the world.

SPArty Budapest: what to expect

You can count on well-known DJs playing electro, trip-hop, hip-hop, funk and trance with light, video and laser visual effects and unlimited alcohol. o/ And thanks to founder Laszlo Laki, whose company Cinetrip began specialising in nightclub silent film projections shortly after the fall of communism, they have been running for almost 20 years.

We went to SPARTY for a unique experience in a cool setting and it was delivered. We expected great things but it was so much better! Pool was busy but added to atmosphere, the water was so nice and hot that we didn’t mind the cold outside of it! A must do in Budapest if you are aged 18-35.

The security staff is plentiful and keeps everyone in check. We can tell this was a very well managed event. Note that you don’t have to dress to impress to enter the venue and should bring clothes that are easy to change in to/out of. Take flip flops and you may want a cover up you wouldn’t mind losing for the short walk. The crowd is very diverse, fairly well behaved, but definitely skewed younger and more men to women.

Ladies, you will get wet! Try not to be overly annoyed with a little splashing.

This was a fantastic event, we had such great fun! Good vibes, good music, no arrogance. We’d definitely do it again and recommend it. Thank you SPARTY for a great night! Have you experienced something similar? Please leave a comment below.
